Connecting electric potential and field using calculus | AP Physics | Khan Academy

Show description

At a given location in an electrostatic field, the electric field component in a particular direction equals the negative derivative of electric potential with respect to position in that direction. The change in electric potential between two points equals the negative integral of the dot product of the electric field and the displacement along a path connecting them. This change is independent of the path chosen. Sections: 00:00 - Finding electric field from potential 00:45 - From average field to field at a point 02:07 - Field components in two and three dimensions 03:31 - Finding potential difference from field 06:14 - Worked example with uniform electric field ------------------ Khan Academy is a nonprofit organization with the mission of providing a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. Khan Academy has been translated into dozens of languages, and 15 million people around the globe learn on Khan Academy every month. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we would love your help!
