Lesson 3: The Ladder of Misinference | Alex Edmans

Big Think, 2 min, NaN views, Oct 13, 2025

Show description

The journey from a simple statement to conclusive proof is fraught with potential misinterpretations, much like a game of telephone where the message morphs with each retelling even as listeners feel they’ve heard their version “clearly.” So, how can consumers of research spot any unearned inferential leaps? According to Professor Alex Edmans, it helps to learn the subtle distinctions between terms like “facts,” “data,” “evidence,” and “proof.” In this video lesson, he describes how to apply this understanding and make decisions based on properly interpreted information. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go Deeper with Big Think: ►Become a Big Think Member Get exclusive content, early, ad-free access to new releases, and more. https://www.youtube.com/@bigthink/membership/ ►Subscribe to Big Think on Substack Explore content that enlightens, inspires, and transforms. https://bigthinkmedia.substack.com/subscribe/ ►Get Big Think+ for Business Engage learners like never before with high-impact video microlearning from the biggest thinkers in the world. https://bigthink.com/plus/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=youtube_description ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About Alex Edmans: Alex Edmans is Professor of Finance at London Business School.
