We’ve all seen the movies in which two pals make a pact. To get married if they’re both single at a certain age. To exact revenge. To win a local competition. So many tales are woven around the making and keeping of promises to accomplish goals, large and small. But according to author Nir Eyal, when it comes to motivation, pacts can also be effective tools for maintaining focus in the workplace. In this video lesson, he discusses Step 4 of his process for becoming “indistractable”: using precommitments to prevent unwanted behaviors and hold yourself accountable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go Deeper with Big Think: ►Become a Big Think Member Get exclusive content, early, ad-free access to new releases, and more. https://www.youtube.com/@bigthink/membership/ ►Subscribe to Big Think on Substack Explore content that enlightens, inspires, and transforms. https://bigthinkmedia.substack.com/subscribe/ ►Get Big Think+ for Business Engage learners like never before with high-impact video microlearning from the biggest thinkers in the world. https://bigthink.com/plus/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=youtube_description ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About Nir Eyal: Nir Eyal writes, consults, and teaches about the intersection of psychology, technology, and business.
